Prof. Harriet Silius (Finland) – president

Harriet Silius is Professor of Women’s Studies at Åbo Akademi University, Finland since 1996. She was president of AOIFE 2000-2003 and member of ATHENA since its start. She is engaged in the Finnish national programme for PhD students as ell as the Nordic Research School in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies. Her research interests are professionalisation, European comparative research, feminist research methods, ethnicity and migration, and the institutionalisation of Gender Studies. She has served as chair or member of review panels for research council grants, professorships and quality assessments in the Nordic countries. She has published extensively on different aspects of professionalisation, the legal profession, trends in European research funding and on the professionalisation of Women’s Studies. Recently she co-edited a book on Critical studies of gender equalities, Makadam 2008.
