Prof. Barbara Bagilhole (the U.K.) – treasurer

Barbara Bagilhole is Professor of Social Policy and Equal Opportunities and Associate Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Social Sciences & Humanities at Loughborough University, UK. Her major research and teaching interest is equal opportunities and diversity policies. In particular, she specialises in gender, ‘race’, disability, sexual orientation, religion and belief, age, and intersectionality issues.

Barbara was publically appointed to the UK government’s Expert Group on ‘Promoting Women in Science, Engineering and Technology’. She is an invited member of the World Institute for Engineering and Technology Education (WIETE) in recognition of a significant contribution to engineering and technology education.

Barbara has also been commissioned by the UK Economic and Social Research Council, Commission for University Career Opportunities, Department of Environment, and the Department of Health to undertake work in the field of evaluation of equal opportunities and diversity policies. Her latest research project is a seven country gendered study of ‘Higher Education Leading to Engineering And scientific careers (HELENA)’, funded by the European Union 7th Framework Programme, 2008-11.
